2 TA jawans booked for rape of minor

The police has registered a case against two soldiers of the Territorial Army (TA) on the charge of raping a 17-year-old girl in the Chingus area here.

Residents said Shamima (name changed) of Alam Din of Chingus was grazing cattle in a field when two soldiers of TA caught and raped her. Residents claimed that the girl had bruises all over her body. Angry villagers chased the jawans, but they fled in nearby forests.

The police identified the duo as Bagh Hussain son of Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Saghir son of Bashir Ahmed. It said a case of rape had been registered against the accused at Chingus police station.

Defence spokesperson Col S.D.Goswami told The Tribune that charges like rape are handled by the police. "The case will be handled by the police and we will extend it full cooperation.In the meantime the Army is also ascertaining the facts of the case", he said.

Last month two soldiers of TA, posing as militants, had allegedly tried to molest women of the family of Muhammad Ayoub at Dudhasan Bhalla in this district.
