Nagar panchayat fined for power theft

The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has slapped a fine of Rs 13 lakh on the Nagar Panchayat, Handyaya, Barnala district, for running over 150 streetlights on illegal power connections.

Sources said a complaint in this regard was filed by a farmer in which he had accused the nagar panchayat authorities of Handyaya of running over 150 streetlights on two kundi connections for the past over two months.

The PSEB authorities, led by SDO, Rural, Barnala, Gagandeep Singh, raided the area and found that the complaint was genuine and slapped a fine of Rs 13 lakh on the nagar panchayat, Handyaya.
